Från MOOCs till VOOCs

Intresset hittills för stora öppna nätkurser (MOOCs) har kommit huvudsakligen från högre utbildning men modellen kan tillämpas inom till exempel vuxenutbildning och yrkesutbildning. En artikel i nättidningen Merlin John Online, You've heard of Moocs – now it's 'Welcome to Voocs', presenterar planer att ge öppna nätbaserade kurser för olika yrkeskategorier. En rapport från organisationen Feltag (Further Education Learning Technologies Action Group) visar ett stort behov för anställda inom alla branscher att bli digitalt kompetenta och MOOC-modellen kan bli en av flera metoder för kompetensutveckling. I första hand riktas dessa VOOCs (Vocational Open Online Courses) mot lärare inom vuxen- och yrkesutbildning.

Enligt Donald Clark, en av initiativtagarna:

“Whereas Moocs tend to have focused on academic learning," he explained, "the Trust feels that the people working to support learning in vocational and adult education could benefit from a Vooc, a Vocational Open Online Learning Course." And appropriately, the first Vooc aims to develop the skills and knowledge of the teachers, trainers, tutors and learning support workers in how to make more effective use of digital technology and social media to improve learning.
